Tired of feeling trapped?

At Outside the Box Functional Medicine, we give you the tools you need to "escape" the frustrations of today's current healthcare environment.

Functional medicine practices, like ours, address the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, functional medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.

"When a plant's leaves are turning brown, you don't paint the leaves green. You look at the cause of the problem.

If only we treated our bodies the same way!"

- Dr. Frank Lipman

The easiest way for us to explain Functional Medicine and why it is important is to refer to the image of the tree on the right.

This tree represents your body and its systems. If you think of your symptoms as the "leaves" and your systems as the "roots",  it is easy to see that many of our illnesses and conditions stem from an imbalance in the "roots".

To alleviate symptoms quickly and effectively, Functional Medicine practitioners work from the ground up. They do not treat patients with a "pill for the ill", but rather identify the source of the problem and recommend Outside the Box Treatments that are effective and life-changing.
